Can't offer location specifics, but the distance and portages make me think about 3 - 3.5 hours gets you onto Gun.

Heading in July 5th. Look to get from Mudro to Gun with time left to fish. Is this doable? Suggestions, crowds? Can we get further north if Gun is full? Plan in using Gun campo as base for day trips to other lakes. Thoughts?
Thanks!

There are people that push hard and get to Friday Bay of Crooked going that way. However, it all depends on weather, how efficient you are, hard you want to work, etc. In short, yes you can get to Gun on day 1.

Yes, it's doable, but how long it will take you I don't know. It's about 7 miles to the end of Fairy-Gun portage if you single portage, 9 if you double. I usually just add up mileages and divide by 2, which is fairly conservative.

Easily doable. If you leave in early in AM (by 8-9am) you will have most of late afternoon and all evening to fish after setting camp. Portages are shorter and straight forward with exception of the second one (95rod) out of Mudro. That can be difficult. We have made it to Friday bay from Mudro in a day and had time to fish. So I think you will be fine.

Shouldn't be an issue. We once went from Wednesday Bay all the way to Mudro. We even went down the Moosecamp river which was very slow. It was a long tiring day but we did it.
I think a lot of it depends on sites taken. Once you pass the long portage north of Gun there is probably no turning back to find a campsite.
Just be comfortable knowing you may have extra hours involved looking for a site and don't get trapped in the dark. It's the main reason I like starting as soon as I can see the trail.
