Normally I have a fishing trip planned in Canada the first week of September, but it looks like that won't be possible this year with the border issues. I'm looking for route suggestions for a week long solo trip. I'd like to focus more on fishing that covering a lot of miles, and would prefer sticking to smaller water since I will be going solo. I've done numerous trips to the BWCA and Quetico, but always with at least one other person. I'd also like to base the trip out of Ely, since I am familiar with that area. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The first place to start would be to check what permits are available on the date you want to go in. I'm hearing things are busy this year, so you might have to eliminate several EP's right off the bat.

Beyond that, an area that jumps out at me that meets your criteria of good fishing and smaller water is the Kawishiwi River/Gabbro type area. You could enter from the north at EP29 or 30, or the south at 32/33. Take a look at a map, there are lots of route options that keep you on relatively small water going around there.

And understanding that you'd like to focus on fishing, don't dismiss the idea of moving camps 3 or more times if you're there for a full week. The days can be long when you're alone and fishing the same corner of the same lake might get old. Just keep that in mind.
