Hello, I would like recommendations for a 2-day/1-night trip near Ely (where my family will be staying). I have been canoeing since childhood and backpacking for 20 years and staying near Ely the last four years - and now would like to combine the three. I would actually like to be able to portage a fair amount and am interested in doing day two on my SUP (hope this isn't sacrilegious!). Thanks.

If you can get a tow up Moose Lake from EP 25 you could do a nice loop in a normally crowded area. Will get less crowds, get dropped off at the north end of Moose lake at the portage into Splash lake then loop through Splash, Ensign, Gibson, Swing, Abinodji, Boot, Ensign, Splash, & get towed out again.

Some nice campsites along this normally really crowded area and gives you seven portages with only one really long one at the very end from Boot back to Ensign.

Can also do some side trips through Cattyman and into Jordan to the narrows.

A two day trip is pretty much in on day one and out on day two even if it is a loop. I’m not sure how you do day two on an SUP when you also still have your canoe. You could do the whole thing on a SUP.

My main suggestion is to see if you can add a third day. I did a short trip a few years ago and the day completely in the wilderness was priceless.

Plus, if you have an inflatable SUP, you could take it along and day trip with it on the middle day.

EP 6 - Slim Lake. Beautiful, easy and (most likely) solitude. You can do a day loop if you want or just hang and explore Slim. OK fishing (smallmouth). Great campsite on the northwest side of the lake (2nd from the portage).
