My wife and I are planning a trip to Disappointment Lake on September 10th-13th but there aren't many campsites on the lake. Should we switch to Lake One entry point to ensure a campsite or will we be okay?

Voyageurs maps show eleven sites on Disappointment with two additional on both nearby Ahsub and Parent Lakes. Switching to Lake One will not guarantee an open campsite. You’ll be fine.

Have you looked at the online map for Disappointment right here at BWCA.com?

There are two sites on Parent that would be good backups if you can't find anything on Disappointment. Ahsub to the north has at least one, perhaps two sites if you are shut out. September should be lighter traffic on that lake this year. Last year was an anomaly (hopefully)!

Plenty of campsites, watch the wind on Snowbank, the 140r portage to Disappointment is pretty mellow, and they have a dock at the entry on Snowbank which I think sucks for a canoe.

Jackfish: "Have you looked at the online map for Disappointment right here at BWCA.com? " I did look and cross referenced that with other maps. Hard to tell if some of the sites have closed or if that was temporary. Love this site by the way, thanks for your comment.

One August, we took the very last site in Disappointment's NE corner. An okay spot. All other sites were filled. I take that back; the island site was open but found it to be covered with swarms of bees as we unloaded. And hastily re-loaded.

Our group of three entered through Snowbank on September 9th and planned on staying on Disappointment. We ended up going all the way to Ashigan before finding an open site. We were pretty surprised not to find any sites. Even sites on Parent and Asub were taken. Hopefully this year will not be as crowded as last year!
