My son wanted to do a 3 week solo before he was driving age, so flew to Duluth and took a taxi to Ely. Around $150 or 175 iirc. By googling Duluth taxi I found three cab companies. Call or use their web site to ask for quotes. For a very long trip, probably less than car rental. Can't tell you outfitter charge. And the taxi supports locals too - not like your money goes to China.

Maybe this is what I should do with my vacation time. Even if I charged what a rental would be for one day...I could make money.

They call it Uber"

No, “they” do not. The terms of service make this unpalatable to people thinking of becoming Uber or Lyft drivers solely to provide such a service. Been there, researched that last year.

It's too bad there are thieves. It would be nice to have a board, where you post your travel path, and times, and people could ride share. For instance, my wife and I will be driving a 7 passenger vehicle, with just two of us in it. We wouldn't have a problem picking someone up in Duluth, and dropping them off in Ely or GM, depending on which way we're going.

However, if we start a board, with travel dates, it makes it awfully easy for someone to know when our house will be vacant.

Often times when we go to the bdub, the vehicle is pretty full, but sometimes there's space available.

And if we were doing something like that, they could just fly into the Twin Cities, and ride up with us. Of course, Covid has made some of that complicated too. Some people wouldn't want to share a vehicle with someone who might have covid, just prior to a BWCA trip?

I have just posted for the first time ever, looking for a ride for my partner [Ely to downtown Duluth Saturday 7 August.] Couple of years ago we arranged through a Craigslist RideShare ride wanted post on the Duluth CL for the same run for $100, which seems very reasonable e. Would do the same this time around, but she will be housesitting our place in NM. Anyway, you might try that, worked for us. And please, spread the word. Folks need to get to and from Ely, that's a market!

Hey Analyzer- 2 things. After looking at your profile, it would seem pretty difficult to figure out where you live so that one could burglarize your stuff. Maybe I'm wrong, caution is a good thing. And 2, I am looking for a ride from Ely to Duluth for my partner on Saturday 7 August should you have the room in that rig. Shot in the dark, but I like your attitude!
Best to you

I'm sorry. We won't be up there in August.

Should pswith5's proposed service be called "CanoeBer"?

Bravo! I'll be tormenting my pun-hating family with this joke later this evening. I thank you and they will be cursing your name.

My name has frequently been cursed (or at least groaned at) because of a pun or two. Enjoy your tormenting session!

You are unfortunately wrong. Within the space of ten minutes I was able to access his personal details, starting solely from his profile here. I will not describe how, but none of it was illegal or even more difficult than working a keyboard and a trackpad.

A number of outfitters that advertise on this forum do offer pick-up/shuttle services from the Duluth airport. Check their websites for details.

Does anyone have a shuttle service from Duluth airport to Ely area? We usually rent a car and park it at the outfitters for a week. This year I was traveling with the family and had to wait almost two hours for my "reserved" car. I've been hearing that car companies got rid of a lot of cars and car rental rates start at $150 a day. That would be an expensive way as we're doing a 10 day trip this year. Any other ways to get from the airport to Ely?
