Hi all!
Curious for some advice and/or recommendations: I have the good fortune to pick up a new to me Magic from Piragis in Ely on the 16th of October. I’ll be picking it up around lunchtime and am contemplating if I should head to South Hegman EP 77 and camp two night in BWCA or should I stage up at Fall Lake or another campground and maybe do just a single night via EP 77?
Thanks in advance for any recommendations etc. Cannot wait to do my first solo :-)

I’d head right in. You should be able to find a site. If not, head to Little Bass. I was just at Mudro entry and there were only 4 cars.

Fall Lake campground is closed for the winter. Bearhead State park would Be open and a good choice. Carl

I have a used Magic that I bought from Bhouse, of this website, who bought it from someone else, who bought it used from Piragis ( Piragis usually sells at one year use). Great solo lake and tripping boat and workable on non-technical flowing water, they go a long time with a bit of TLC. Enjoy your new ride!

Thanks very much all for the intel and advice. I think I am going to head right in once I pick up my canoe. Worst case scenario I will cruise into Little Bass.
Happy padding all :-)

Was just there in my magic for a day trip on Labor day! Actually for being such an easy portage into the lake it was really beautiful! Would be a good intro solo trip.

Well the are I’m pretty awesome Pictographs and worth seeing. Late Season short trip you shouldn’t have any issue with a campsite. I think that would be a worthwhile 2 night or single night trip.
Other than tat you’ve got all kinds of options. Just make sure you check the forecast and are prepared. I haven’t canoe camped that late. I always wet foot portage so I’d be picking up the Chota hippies if I was going in later fall.

You're really wanting to see those pictos? Otherwise there are a ton of options. Slim lake entry would be a few smaller lakes right near Ely and probably pretty quiet.
I'm not sure if Fenske Lake campground is open, but that would be a place you could camp too. (and paddle if you wanted)

I could be wrong, but I don't think the Fall Lake Campground will be open.
