New to the BWCA and new to the idea of bring my fishing boat into BWCA. i was told there was some portages that had rollers that i could use to transport your boat on to the next lake. anyone know what ones there on and how to use them. i have a 16 foot aluminum boat 15hp and its pretty heavy and has anyone used portage wheels with heavy boats. THANKS |

Not in the BWCA. I would think it would be illegal because of the mechanical factor. |

the following: International Boundary, Four-Mile Portage, Fall-Newton-Pipestone and Back Bay Portages into Basswood Lake, Prairie Portage, Vermilion-Trout Lake Portage. This is cut and pasted right from the forest service planning guide. The roller assistance mechanisms that I've seen on Fall lake was a do-it-yourself projects that attached to the board and the users pulled the boat across the portages at fall lake and Pipestone Bay. The individuals took their wheels with them and didn't leave them at the portage hope this helps Tony |
