Squint, just off the Gunflint Trail, not in the BWCA. A short portage, walleye fishing is good but take some weedless rigs.

Laketrout68: " My favorite small lake is difficult to get to. If some of you desire a special experience, then you may be familiar with this gem. I do not want to name this lake that I love. Not many people fish here. Call me odd but I hope this lake stays pretty quiet! Happy holidays, Marc"
Everybody has been to this lake... the secret is out.

Yep, everyone goes there now. I even heard that the Forest Service was going to build a Holiday Inn Express there. LOL

All along the Louse River; Frederick, (Wine runs deep),Mug Lake, Bug, Trail, Frond, Boze. All these fit your smaller, shallower lakes. A little further north, Duck Lake, Hug Lake, Hub Lake, Whipped Lake. These are all deep in the BW and require a lot of work to get to.

The inlet is gorgeous, lots of wild rice, plenty of bird activity (nesting swans, geese, and loons), and I've seen a bear on the shore two different times. Very shallow lake. There isn't a campground but a few nice spots for picnics on either tiny islands or outcroppings. Most people paddle straight through, I think, but a paddle around the perimeter made for an awesome day with young daughters.

I'll be interested to read other posts and what people like about these types of lakes.

"

Now this picture looks like heaven. Any of the other several you thought of would be well welcomed.

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond! I’ll be thinking of this picture all winter!"

Here's a photo of Hula taken from the same spot as the pic above just looking in the opposite direction.

Lunetta doesn't get very deep and is small enough. One scenic campsite right on the water so you own the lake if you find it open. We caught fish and enjoyed the solitude.

One Lunetta photo is of the firepit and the other is of the river from Little Crab to Lunetta.

Yep... that's the one. Has some trees around the shore. And a rock. A bit hard to find. If you don’t know where you’re going, you might wind up someplace else.

Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.

I'll have to dig for pictures, but the lake(s) that came to mind when I read this were the ones just north of the portage north out of Gun on the west side. You can get there in a day from Mudro EP.

Wagosh, Niki, and Chippewa are the set. Bonus, if you want CLEAR water you'll have it on Gun. And Moosecamp Lake and river/creek to Fourtown are great if water levels allow for travel.

Add Papoose to this list, all 4 in a row between Friday Bay of Crooked and Gun. Looks like single campsite on each of the 3 lakes and none on Papoose. Would have some pass-thru traffic but no one else staying on any of those lakes if you had the site on any of those.

Bobber,
You figured it out! We should meet this spring near that big rock! I’ll bring the steaks! Marc

Any small lake with a single campsite (or less) and great fishing. Some examples. Pietro, Boot, Fairy, Splash, Gull, Turtle, Moosecamp, Bullets.

Hello everyone,

On a last trip to the BWCA we paddled through this small, scenic lake that was made up of a majority shallow section. It was pretty amazing gliding over grass in several feet of clear water looking for pike.

I am searching for any recommendations for relatively small/intimate lakes that are shallow (or have large shallow sections). Or even your favorite, tiny picturesque lakes!

Thanks for taking the time to read. Look forward to searching for pictures of all the suggestions!

*edit* I don’t fish, but love wildlife! Bonus for good wildlife spots
Happy holidays.

I remember having a similar experience in the north end of heritage lake.

All of the (small) northerns you could ever want smashing any and everything we threw in shallow water weeds.
