Many years ago my realtor’s Father used to own the portage lease to run the motor portage. She told me how she would spend weekends there as a kid while her Dad would transport people over the portage. What a life!

Her email was something like walleye@…com

Can someone explain how this works? We are going LIS North and want to head into LLC , if the weather is decent, so we’ll have to go through there. Is there a charge ? Can you just use the portage like normal? I’m so confused

You can just use it like a normal portage. You'd only have to pay if you actually wanted them to tow your stuff across. It's an easy portage.

For what it's worth, it seemed easier to take out and put in on shore to side.

See photo below. Maybe taken in May 2021. From the site that can’t be named here.

Beav, how much is the fee? Are the docks owned by the folks who run the mechanical portage?"

I don't know who runs the 2 mechanical portages along the route to LLC but I assume it's contracted out to a private party similiar to Prairie Portage? And again, I don't know who controls all the infrastructure but assume it's the private operator. I've witnessed on multiple occasions, canoers who used the docks to aid in getting out or back in the water and been chewed out/requested to pay.

And the sign is there for everyone to read... :)

There is a sign for the canoe portage landing. Land there and walk the portage like normal. DO NOT use the dock on either side! DO NOT touch the docks, unless you want to pay. The person(s) there will want you to pay the fee if you use their docks. They are touchy about that subject, FYI.

When are you going in? Highndry water last year was impressive. The falls were raging and created a string cross current in front of the docks and portage landing. Tricky place to navigate safely. The LLC side had to be held back from overflowing the portage and rails by a makeshift dam. For some reason the outfitter had me transfer my boat, gear and myself out on LLC to another boat floating nearby. That was fun. I think the LLC side couldn't maneuver in close enough to pick me up? Enjoy your trip!

Easy portage. Fun to watch the mechanized portage if it makes a trip. Nice place for lunch.
