There is nothing better than 1 on 1 bonding time in the wilderness with your kid. I started doing that with each of my daughters when they were each 5 and they are now 18 and 16. One goes with me and one does something special with mom. Each year that it is their turn for the 1 on 1 trip they get so excited. We have a 4 year old boy who gets to do his first father/son trip next year. Last year and this year we are practicing by doing our father/son trip at a campground at an EP. We do family outings up there every year as well, but the 1 on 1 trips into the BWCA are something special. I’ve done a couple of fall basecamps on the northern end of Sawbill and really liked it. I also stayed on Smoke for a few nights with my younger daughter when she was 9. I really liked that lake. I haven’t been to Alton and the Lady Chain. Alton has a reputation for big waves when it’s windy so I’ve stayed away from it since I have a kid as my bow paddler. |

If you anyone would be interested in joining us, we'd be open to it if the fit was right. We haven't finalized a destination yet. Considering going east or west. We will probably basecamp rather than travel. Our focus will be on R&R, with fishing the primary activity. Planning to exit on 7/1. This will be our second trip. Email me at joelwondra@gmail.com if you'd like to discuss. |
