Duluth, MN – September 7, 2023 – The Superior National Forest (SNF) issues a notice of storm damage across the Forest. A strong wind and rain event occurred Tuesday, September 5th affecting Forest roads and recreation areas. The storm's damage tracked from Hoyt Lakes northeast across Highway 1 just to the north of Isabella, Minnesota. Forest Service crews are clearing roads, trails, and recreation sites over the next couple of days. Please be very cautious and patient in this area, as trees may be partially or completely blocking roads and trails.

NOAA/ National Weather Service Duluth has provided map of the storm area and will provide an updated map later this morning on the NOAA-NWSDuluth Facebook page.

Superior National Forest roads that are currently affected and impassible at this time include:
· Moose Line FSR 130
· Deep Lake Road FSR 1491
· FSR 113
· Bandana Lake Road FSR 383
· Dunka Lake Road FSR 112
· Pitcha Lake Road FSR 110

The SNF will additionally have remote sensing data as well as a Beaver flight in the coming days to help assess the worst of the damage. Please note that the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness was nominally affected.
