I love the Kawishiwi River. However, I think it is easier to get away from people if you head through the numbered lakes and toward Insula and Alice. Lots of great areas to visit. If you make it far enough, the Fishdance pictographs are wonderful.

Question: Do you already have a permit for EP#30?

Putting in on May 20th and heading to Fishdance Lake, it would be great to see a trip report of your experience.

Have fun, good luck and safe travels....

Once you get below the triangle where the North Kawishiwi splits off the amount of traffic usually diminishes. One portage and a longish paddle down the river brings you to a wider spot with an exceptional campsite. Be careful fishing here. in the past our group caught northern pike up to 15 pounds that had teeth marks where a larger northern pike had grabbed them.

Some days in this area we saw no other canoes, some times there could be 4 or more. Most of the time it was pretty quiet except the year of the Delta Lake fire where every plane and helicopter fighting that fire passed right over the campsite.

Morning Crew,
Looking for any advice on trip planning for EP #30 in early June with four people, for five days. We enjoy fishing, sightseeing, and some adventures. I'm contemplating on starting with the river or numbered lakes?

Thoughts?
