papalambeau: " Gravel, Motors of any kind are indeed illegal to possess on Little Loon. That is because it is not in this list: Lakes with no HP Limits Little Vermilion, Loon, Lac La Croix (not beyond the south end of Snow Bay in the USA), Loon River Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Rules and Regulations |

Another question , the small part of seagull lake that is actually outside the bwca boundary's , is a person allowed to use an outboard without a motorized permit ? & would there be a horse power limit in that area ? |

shock: "portagerunner: "The seagull access near trails end campground is paddle-able through the narrow section. This is a much easier access point than the Gull Lake to sea gull portage via the sea gull river which isn’t much of an actual portage. There are motors allowed in certain parts of sea gull and they do have Hp restrictions. Attached is a picture of the motor restrictions from the entry point sign at the landing. You may have to zoom in some.thanks all for the input , i thought where it narrows out into seagull lake , that the current is light but some degree of difficulty. i will not be with a very strong or experience paddler , is my only concern. " I don't remember it being at all noteworthy. |

Zulu: "The current can be strong in the narrows but there is about a 1 rod portage if you want to avoid it."at ice out that was my concern , south or north side is the portage ? thinking about just having some rope tied up and ready to go incase. thanks zulu , i dont want to get turned sideways with an inexperienced paddler. |

The easy ways are the Blankenburg Landing (circled in red on this map) and the Trails End Campground landing (circled in yellow). Both have sloping approaches that allow loading and unloading from a trailer. Blankenburg also has a dock structure and a parking lot. The Trails End landing has parking a short distance away, at the loop around the campground. The less easy way is from Saganaga along the Seagull River, with a portage as you approach Seagull Lake. If Seagull is your destination, there is no reason to do this, even if you’re in the campground. A motor permit is required in the BWCAW portion of Seagull and is invalid west of the western end of Three Mile Island. That means you cannot even possess, let alone use, a motor in that latter area. The limit is 10hp within the permitted area; no limit outside the BWCAW. |

Would the same thing (motors off the boats) hold true for guys using motors on Loon Lake and then entering into Little Loon? As we pass through Little Loon to get to other lakes we have seen motors on boats a number of times. Even saw one guy motoring around Little Loon! |
