Found this thread through Google search. I tried both of the campgrounds mentioned above but I just need one night. Registration will only allow you take two nights...over $100. Only found one outfitter in the area that has camping and haven't heard back yet. Does anyone know of any other places to camp for one night? I'm doing a 15 hour drive. Thanks.

You would want to double check Lake Jeannette Campground. It was not open earlier this year because of Covid.
The other campground that gets mentioned is Fall Lake. It is farther away.

You may want to check the Fenske camp group site at recreation dot gov again. $50/night is for a group site. For a one car group I think its $15/night plus $6-8 reservation fee. Also, they have first come-first serve walk in sites that are not reservable in advance, again for $15/night. This is the closest camping without overshooting EP 16. If it were me I would feel confident in arriving at 5 PM and finding an available site to spend the night. Jeanette is about 10 miles past EP 16 and was closed earlier in the year-maybe still closed.

If you are coming from Ely (and as Mr. Barley says, get your permit before leaving town), Fenske is on your way to EP 16. Jeannette is overshooting it, and you will backtrack in the morning. Both are nice. Fenske is much more convenient if you might want to go back into town after setting up camp - it's only about 15 minutes.

Heading up to EP16 this fall. Is there a campground anywhere close to it? I will be travelling from Ely. Thank you, JP

Fenske Lake Campground Is 20-25 minutes from ep16. Sites are reservable or if open, there is a drop box for payment.
If you are just looking for a spot to camp later at night4 you can camp off of the echo trail down any forest service road as long as you are not in sight of the main road.

Remember to get your permit before you camp overnight close to EP16. It's a long drive back to Ely for a permit.

Thanks for the advice. I’m just afraid of not getting a site due to the influx of people going up. In that case I’ll probably just sleep in the car at the put in because getting a late start from ep 16 would not be hopeful for a quick campsite.
Thanks again!
