We went in on Friday morning from Island River and pushed all the way to Bald Eagle. Things were pretty clear on the way in. We stayed 2 nights. Plan was Quadga for a night on the way out. So... Once we got back into the burn area, there were lots of trees down that were not down on Friday. We has some storms on Friday, and wind was up on Saturday, so I assume that is why. The portage to Quadga from the West had about 12 trees blocking the trail in just the first 100 yards. I scouted it out and decided it was not worth it. We decided to stay on the river or push all the way back out. The remaining portages were better, but still had to bypass several trees, or go over / under them. It was not fun. By the time we hit our river site option, the weather was moving in, so we decided yo just go all the way back. That was fun into a heavy wind and the current.. UGH. But we made it. So, if you are planning on traveling the Isaballa River, allow extra time for the portages for a bit. |

Heading that way in a few weeks. Hopefully the situation improves before then but, it's nice to know in advance the added obstacles we may encounter. |
