Did the Foss Lake Fire cause much damage around Crab?

Headed up to the BWCA in 1 month - how are folks doing in Crab Lake and Cummings from Burntside Lake?

We are super excited, as it's our 1st trip but looking forward to hammering any & all fish!

I haven't heard many reports, but you can expect to catch Smallies and Northern Pike in both.
Occasional Walleyes have been caught in Cummings, but all the way down near the portage to Buck Lake.

I was in Cummings end of May/Early June. Fishing wasn't bad, smallies and Northern. Make sure you take the pull over into otter and fish the water pouring in from Cummings. Caught a decent amount of fish in there. We did a day trip to Western and had a nice walleye shore lunch at the camp there. I killed all three species with Berkley flicker shads. Dawn and dusk top water with hula poppers. We also went to Big Moose and had some of the best fishing I've ever had in the BWCA there. Long portage though.

We had decent bass/pike fishing in Cummings last time we were in that area but Buck was lights out. If you are up for a 480 rod portage odds are you will be rewarded. We caught walleyes, smallies, northerns, and the biggest bluegills I've ever seen. They hit 3 inch shad raps....

We've been to Crab many times and twice went beyond up to Cummings. We are very casual about fishing, but usually have at least three fish dinners out of our usual six-day trip. Crab has some nice campsites; we always go for those facing west for spectacular sunsets. All of these pix are from Crab.

I didn't see any evidence of the fire going out through Crab on May 31st.
