Hi all: I'm in the research phase of building my first canoe. I was wondering if any plans are available for canoe similar to a Northstar Magic or Wenonah Advantage. No rocker, substantial tumblehome, 16 ft

I don't think there are any plans for a Magic. You'd have to modify an existing set of plans to a Magics specs. The magic has 1 3/4" rocker in the front and 3/4" in the rear.

The merlin has a little bit of rocker. More in the bow than stern. Pretty much fits want you are asking for.

I think one of the finest solos out there for the builder is the Freedom Solo from Bear Mountain Boatworks.

It can be built to 16' 3" with the same plans. This is a very well designed boat. The new designs with differential rocker track really well, are much more comfortable in rough water and are more maneuverable to boot. Watch your intended load carefully in choosing the length to build. If you are way too light for the hull it will feel a bit squirrelly. The speed difference will not be likely noticable between the two lengths.
