I love cherry trim! If you do a search you can see my Freedom 17-9 that was a mix of white and red cedar with cherry gunwales and seats. I liked the Freedom 17 design, but I am a bigger guy, and so are my tripping partners.

Hi builders.Trying my hand at a new project now that we have a few months of nice weather. Years ago a friend and I stripped out a redwood hull but never got around to finishing it and ended up selling the hull and forms. Wish I hadn't done that but I'm ready to give it another shot.
So I'm building a Freedom 17.I have my strong back and strips made and forms ready to mount. Going with 3/16 white cedar 'cause I got it real cheap, but it was lots of work planing and scarfing to get good strips. Not a single un-scarfed strip in the bunch. Thinking of cherry accessories for contrast since I have some.
I appreciate the info I've gleaned from reading these posts and the ones at Bear Mountain.
Any pointers from anyone is appreciated.
Wish me luck!

Steve

That is a beautiful boat, Wables. I'm hoping for a similar look--dark detail on a light hull. I have a heap of rough sawn cherry that I use for furniture and I can't wait to turn some of it into canoe parts.
Your steaming set-up picture looks like it could have been taken in my garage...right down to the clamps on the bench to keep the PVC pipe from shifting.
