Jim, in case no one has welcomed you to the site let me be the first. Thanks for the reply. Where do you live in Iowa? My canoes are stored north of St Ansgar and if your not to far away I'd like to see [and drool] over your strippers some time. FRED

Hi Fog
It's hard to tell without seeing your canoes.
But I'd be real hesitant about sanding with even 100 grit on a Kevlar!
Maybe 320, just to give your finish something to stick to.
I like Epifanes on my cedar strip canoes.

I have a Minn 2 and 2 Souris River canoes to refurbish this fall [hopefully]. I bought the expoxy from Red Rock outfitters and the other type of finish from Spirit of the Wilderness this spring, they both recomended using 80 grit sandpaper to sand them down, that sounds pretty course to me I think 100 grit would be better. I've read several reports and everyone uses spar varnish for UV portection. I keep my canoes in the pole shed when they are'nt on a trip. Do I need to varnish them, and use the 80 or the 100 grit sandpaper? No bad grooves just scratches. FRED

Hi Fred
Thanks for the welcome!
I'm in Humboldt. I'm hoping to make it up to Charles City sometime.
Do you paddle the Cedar much in your area ?

You're sure welcome to stop here ! I'd even let you paddle some !
