It won't be the true Hunter's Island trip of you skip LLC and do through the Darky Lake / Darky River part.....

You'll be on really good fishing lakes with many falls and pools. Fish all of those spots! Especially below Kennebas Falls into Kawnipi and the Chatterton Falls outflow into Russel.

Big lakes and big beautfiul camps all along the way. Saganagons, Kawnipi, Russell, Keats and Sturgeon have several great camps each.

So no one else has any worthwhile input about this route?
I'm looking for current info as it has been 25 years since I've paddled any of this route.
Burned areas?
Meat holes?
Can't miss scenery?
Great or favorite campsites?

I wouldn't miss Ottertrack.........nice lake.

Take your weather radio and if things look like they might get rough you could head up through the Darky river to Darky lake and then into Crooked and bypass the big water of LLC. That is a nifty little run.

INDEED! Spent three days in Ottertrack last summer! And many more days in years past.

I'll keep the Darky Lake option in mind.

It has long been a dream of mine to paddle the route all the way around Hunter's Island. Over the years I have done the entire route in section over the course of several trips. Now I want to do the whole route in one trip. It has been a long while since I've been to Quetico and probably 20-25 years since I paddled any of the Hunter's Island route.

Back in those days the only area where I encountered a burn was in Saganagons. Are there any other fairly recent burn areas along the route?

What is your favorite areas along the route?

Where are some great campsites that I shouldn't miss?

There will only be two of us on the trip. We are going in on September 5th for 15 days. One variation I am making is taking Carp Lake up through the Man Chain to Saganagons to avoid the busier Knife Lake/Ottertrack Lake area (though I imagine in September nothing is as busy as before Labor Day.
