I cross into Canada at least once each year and have been doing so for 12 years. This year I will cross at Pigeon River (NW corner of Lake Superior) in June, July and August. I have also crossed at Port Huron, Ste Saint Marie and International Falls in years past. I don't ever recall being asked about possession of any foods.

The usual questions cover how much alcohol, tobacco and cash we have and are we bringing anything into Canada we intend to leave there. Occasionally we have been asked about firearms and explosives.

I am always honest in my answers since getting caught lying to the border authorities will probably routinely land you in the inspection bay where they will go all of your stuff and your vehicle.

Don’t eat while talking to the customs officer.

last weekend none were mentioned. I pass through customs about twice a week. when there is a food restriction it always gets mentioned. A couple years back when the egg ban was on they were very thorough asking and checking every time I passed through.

Did you Google Canada Customs and Border Protection? You'll find all the information you need.

Should I expect to encounter any fresh food restrictions at the Canadian border this year, such as potatoes, carrots, eggs? Seems I recall a fresh egg ban a couple of years ago due to a chicken flu in the USA.
