I’ll be on the Wawiag River en route from Mack to Kawa Bay likely on June 2nd. How would you guys go about targeting walleye while on the river? Are there likely to be more walleye from Kawa Bay to the rapids, or are they likely to be upstream of the rapids in reasonable numbers as well? I’ve never fished for walleye in a true river like the Wawiag - just spots on the Maligne through the Falls Chain that are more lake like in nature.

By the way, I’ve never been quite sure whether to post Quetico specific fishing posts to the Quetico forum or the Fishing forum. Thoughts?

cburton103: "By the way, I’ve never been quite sure whether to post Quetico specific fishing posts to the Quetico forum or the Fishing forum. Thoughts?" As a general rule, post Quetico questions in the Quetico forum. There are always questions that fall into the "grey area", but most of the time, questions about Quetico are best posted here.

Just came across this thread again. While we were there in early June 2019 we had very poor fishing on the Wawiag. We caught a few 22" or so Pike, but nothing else. The weather was moderately cold, light sprinkling, cloudy, and still. It was after a cold front was on its way out, so that may have had something to do with it.

Thanks! I’ve posted it there as well now.

Probably too late for you to see this since you'll be there tomorrow, but we were in this area last week. Note that Wawiag River is day use only now. No camping allowed. New regulation for 2019.
