Wallidave: "My permit is for June 15 so my trip isn't going to happen with the border shutdown. I received an email from Ontario Parks about restrictions to the parks slowly being lifted and they will provide a refund if my trip is affected? They fail to mention the border is shutdown. " Excellent point. Although I live in Ontario, my trip involves a flight to Thunder Bay. If the park was closed during my reservation, what would the airline care? I'd be on the hook.
This topic came up elsewhere too - someone was saying an outfitter wasn't refunding a deposit for a tow service to Quetico.
I'm going to call the ON Parks to find out but I'd be very surprised if they didn't refund reservation deposits to US residents while the border is closed.

I've been going to Quetico the past couple years instead of Alaska. It's much more relaxing to not have to constantly be aware of running into a brown bear!
So, if I get eaten by a bear in my newly rescheduled vacation to Alaska, it should be logged as a covid casualty.

I always appreciated the opportunity to go to Quetico. I appreciate more now and how precious those Quetico moments were.

Some of those in the paper actually own a cabin in Canada and can't go to it right now.

I've made a yearly trip with my son since 2007 and a few with a friend prior to 2007. My son started work at the U of North Dakota as a flight instructor at the beginning of the year so he wasn't going to be able to make the trip anyway. I was planning for my first solo, hopefully next year and maybe my son can once again join me.

Thanks. Brainerd and Duluth papers have many of the same stories and headlines. I think they're owned by the same group.

I have a friend in Canada, fishing buddy here and in Canada. He is unhappy with US policy of closed border so that he couldn’t do his annual trip to Florida for red fish. I guess this goes both ways.

I hear you. My wife and I have made trips there for the past few years, and we were excited to celebrate our 25th anniversary in the Kashahpiwi area this year. Have to wait on that one.

I went online and cancelled my 6/5 reservation for aa campsite at Dawson Trail, and my Backcountry permit. They were charged back to my card within a few hours. they are waiving any fees associated with cancellation because of Covid-19.

Similar story here--we've celebrated our past three anniversaries in Quetico and have our Quetico permit for a 10-day trip that includes this year's anniversary, which will be our forty-eighth. It's certainly beginning to look as though we'll be celebrating somewhere else...

New Brunswick and Newfoundland/Labrador ban non residents ( even residents of Canada) from entering. No sign of that letting up. Their numbers are really low. Ours aren't though in border towns our state has no cases. Yet.
