Have they announced the date that recreational travel is open?"

They have.

Fully-vaccinated US citizens can begin crossing tomorrow, August 9. The link details the hoops that must be jumped through, including providing proof of a negative COVID test; that test must have been administered less than 72 hours prior to entry. Travelers must also use ArriveCAN to submit their travel data.

toothmiester: "I am still planning to cross the border very early Monday morning and will let everyone know how it goes. I have a group of 4 guys. Three of us took our Covid tests this afternoon and we all tested negative. The last member of our group will take his tomorrow morning. We all are taking the ID Now test and Walgreens got the test results to us in 2-3 hours. Tomorrow we plan on filling out our Arriv Can portal together. "

Good luck and have a great trip! Where are you heading?

I took a short questionnaire today (8/6/2021) on the Canada.ca website. I am a vaccinated US citizen. This was the result:

"You indicated that you are:
a foreign national
not showing signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19
coming from the United States
travelling for an optional reason
You will not be allowed to enter Canada, even if you have tested negative for COVID-19 or have received a COVID-19 vaccine.

You cannot enter Canada for optional reasons, such as:

spending time at a seasonal home or cottage
childcare for your relatives
a personal or casual visit
tourism, fishing, entertainment or leisure
The Canada-U.S. temporary border restriction implemented on March 21, 2020 continues. All discretionary/optional travel remains prohibited."
