You are a lucky man and your dog is a lucky dog. Wish I could go this fall but I have a cast on my right hand due to a broken finger and I am completely unable to paddle a canoe.

I've been through twice:
July 2003 - there was a pretty swift current and a couple of paddlers in knee-deep water fishing around for gear.
July 2021 - the water levels were so low that there was barely any current. No risk at all. I've been following the forecasts in Atikokan since then because of the fires and it seems like there's been no significant rainfall. I doubt the level is much different than when I was there.

Thanks Jackfish. I've been witness to just such a dumping at just such a spot on more than one occasion - though thankfully not a participant! I'll be interested to see what the water levels are like after this summer.
Tumblehome, sorry to hear about the hand. There are many things we do with our hands and canoeing is one of the more pleasant.

Five different sites for pictographs between Beaverhouse and Quetico lake. I always enjoy having a chance to see any I can. I was just up at Lake of the Woods and fall color was good, but I didn’t think it was at full color. Hopefully you will be at or just past peak for fall colors

Yes, a Souris Quetico 16. I had to use some ballast in the bow, especially when my food pack was light at the end of the trip.

Man I'm jealous. An extended exploration of Quetico Lake sounds phenomenal. I bet you see very few other people in there.

Congratulations, and best wishes for a wonderful trip. That was part of our plan for a 10-day trip that had to be cancelled (replaced with Algonquin) due to Quetico fire closures. Maybe next year.

I'll be entering at Beaverhouse for an extended exploration of Quetico Lake. I've long wanted to do a detailed circumnavigation of that beautiful lake, and between covid and the fire closures this seems like a great opportunity. My Lab Bonnie and I will be soloing for a week."
That sounds like a great trip! I wish I could do the same this fall--- hope you can post a trip report when you get back. I'll be interested to read about what you found and how it all worked out.

It's amazing how often in Quetico you get a whole lake to yourself, or at least enough so to where it feels that way. Can't wait to get back next summer!

I've been back in Indy for a few days after a great 7-night trip to the north arm of Quetico Lake. Just me and my lab Bonnie, and we made a wonderful circuit surveying campsites, exploring the shorelines, playing fetch and so on.
I stayed pretty close to shore since I think I had the entire lake to myself - we didn't see anyone else the whole time. I didn't want to swim in the 58 degree water!
Rain and mist most days, with just two sunny afternoons. We also saw the incredibly low water levels that others throughout the area have reported, and the 2" rain we had one night didn't seem to make a dent in that.
Perhaps the most exciting moment was went a tree fell close to our tent on night five just as I was heading to bed! Thankfully, it fell away from the tent.
I'll try to get a more full trip report up soon.
