We are entering Saturday.

There’s not a lot of confidence on this end either. I really liked just checking in by phone last year.

It's staffed every year, but if you want to hear it from them, the park headquarters phone number is (807) 597-2735.

We used to stop at the BH ranger station every trip, but started driving to Atikokan and stopping at the ranger station there. (They're open until 4:00pm.) Then we'd stay overnight in town and head into the park in the morning.

They can post the hours all they want but I believe last year the staff was, at best, intermittently dependable on manning the office.

Last year it wasn’t, at least early in the season when we went, we checked in by phone which was awesome.
Driving to atikokan isn’t worth it to me but I have stayed at seine river and they picked up my permit.
This year my son will most likely be working until midnight or later and then leaving early……. I wonder how happy he will be?? lol
He can grab a couple hours of sleep on the way there .

I’ve seen that in the past as well.

Always wondered what to do in that case, self-permit?

It’s surprisingly easy to paddle right on by that ranger station if it’s a glorious calm sunny September day and you aren’t paying attention. ;).

Many years ago we had a permit to pick up at Beaverhouse ranger station.

The wind was out of the south and blowing so hard we could not paddle the canoe across the lake. Even with three people in an empty canoe. It was too dangerous and the boiling rollers were coming over our gunwales.

We ended up not getting our permit and instead went on with our trip through Cirrus.

A few weeks after our trip I received a letter from Quetico Park lambasting me for not cancelling my permit and not picking it up. If they only knew how hard we tried.

The Beaverhouse ranger stations is a little gem in the woods but still something to think about as you plan your trip.

Just got of the phone with HQ, there was some debate on wether there would be anyone there. I said that I would like to know before I paddle in there, he then said “yes, there should be someone there” ??

Which day are you entering at Beaverhouse? Our trip got pushed back from yesterday to Sunday. I was told that they might have staffing next week which I guess would mean starting on Sunday.
"Should be someone there" doesn't give me a lot of confidence though.

I got a call from Atikokan when we were in Fort Francis on our way up the morning of Sunday the 26th. We were able to check in by phone.
I did see a boat going back and forth to the Beaverhouse ranger station on our way out so I'm guessing Beaverhouse now is being staffed.

Does anyone know if the ranger station is staffed this year?

I just got a phone call from the Atikokan Ranger station and was informed that they won't have staff at the Beaverhouse Ranger Station until next week. You can either stop at Atikokan or call the day before to check in.

Strange, Jordan told me this morning they would.

Curious if anyone has ever had the experience of paddling to the Beaverhouse ranger station and finding no one there during normal hours?

Clearly, paddling back to the launch and driving back to Atikokan in such a case would be onerous to say the least.

I've never been checked by a ranger once in 4 trips to the Q, but given how friendly all the people at the stations are, I have a hard time imagining them giving someone a hard time about continuing on a planned, reserved trip in such a case.

Interestingly I had a voicemail from Saturday midday asking me to do a phone check in.

Guess that answers the question right there. We'll be stopping at the Atikokan ranger station on Friday afternoon and I'll ask about it.

Same here on the phone checkin: got a call from a friendly ranger who went through quite a few details and warnings for my entry tomorrow (weather's been bad, water levels are back up).
