My buddy caught a northern pike in Russell lake that had a seven inch lamprey attached to its side. Anyone else ever run across lampreys in Quetico?

Yes. I have too and interestingly in the same area.

They are silver lamprey and very common in like Cairn lake. More than once had them on northern pike. Once we had a little water in the canoe and after I released a northern pike I looked down and had a lamprey swimming in the boat.

Well, that just sucks! (ooo sorry!)
Seriously, this is bad. I have yet to see one but living in North Carolina I don't get up yonder very often.

They are native lamprey, not the invasive sea lamprey that caused the disaster in the great lakes. So it is something you see on occasion and not something to be alarmed over.
I have seen a couple on pike in Agnes on the American side of the border too.
