quote mastertangler: "quote boonie: "quote mastertangler: " That reminds me of a toast that get's attributed to Groucho Marx. "Here's to our wives and girlfriends. May they never meet." As far as going "all in", I hope I never reach the point where I'm going all in on oatmeal to avoid the inevitable upgrade. ;) |

quote hooky: "At some point, the theory of diminishing marginal utility catches up to you and the next dollar spent for an additional bit of awesome isn't worth it. "The theory of diminishing marginal utility" sounds great! Not sure what it means but I like it! But it is, of course, just a theory ;-) Calvin and Hobbes.......a fav of mine. It has taken me a lifetime to understand that whatever I get involved with I go "all in". And that means a continual upgrading of my equipment. Now I just save money and go for the best right out of the chute knowing I will gradually get there anyway. Fortunately my interests don't include planes, large boats or fancy cars. |

I eat oats everyday on the trail.......usually just whole oats with raisins and cinnamon. Might be time to shake things up a bit. My only concern is I can see everything settling to differing "levels" in my bulk storage system. All the little seeds at the bottom of my bag etc. etc. FWIW.......REI is "out of stock" on this item........Maybe there is a "secret ingredient" that gives you energy to go further and faster and word is now out. |

now, i love oatmeal for breakfast on trips but not enough to pay $6.50 for one serving. you try it out, mastertangler, and let us know if you think it's worth it just as it is before adding any of your own goodies. |

quote unshavenman: "They lost me at the chia seeds. I hate it when they get stuck in between my teeth....." Not sure I have ever eaten a chia seed.........But it occurs to me that if you don't chew they wouldn't get stuck.......plus you would save time. Wow, $6.50! Crazy town to be sure for a single serving of oatmeal. But lots and lots of interesting ingredients. I suppose I will have to get some and give it a whirl. Added protein plus some anti inflammatory stuff like Tumeric. Who puts turmeric in Oatmeal? Could be genius and help ease aches and pains without resorting to the daily dose of Alleve which I usually take for the first week. Cant see why a guy can't make his own if its any good. All the ingredients are listed.....maybe even add a few raisins. |

Backpacker mag is notorious for the high dollar reviews. |

quote hooky: " Yes they review lots of high dollar stuff but to be fair they often divide their reviews up.......as in Ultra light, best value etc. etc. They brought the Kuiu stuff to my attention. So far I have picked up the sleeping bag backpacker reviewed but then I also picked up my absolute all time favorite pair of pants (Attack pants) which are super stretchy and look sharp.......I wear them about town and even to church all the time. I also picked up a vest from them. Good stuff. |
