There's only one more to sample and I've liked all 6 so far well enough to eat again and most well enough to want to eat again. |

The Coconut Rice and Cuban Black Beans was very good - as tasty as any of these sorts of meals I have eaten. You can't go wrong with this one - it was very good eaten at home :). I also tried the Zesty Miso Broccoli Salad. It was pretty good, but not quite as good as the first. It was one of the cold-prep meals. I'd eat either one of these again as an occasional meal for variety, although they are too high in sodium for me to eat on a regular basis. I'll update when I try the others. |

Thanks ... I had noticed the sale at Food for the Sole and did place an order for one of their bundles. I had not seen the new no cook stuff at the Outdoor Herbivore, though, so will have to check that out. I have not purchased anything from them for awhile, so it is probably time to restock for next season. Some new cold prep salad things to try sounds good and I could definitely use a few more on the shelf. Thanks for the heads-up! |

Another quite different and interesting sounding change of pace breakfasts to try is Backpackers Bistro's Espresso Porridge. They also have some vegetarian dinners that might be of interest, as well as some other dinners. |

I did just fire off an order for the two new entrees that Heather's Choice has ...Chicken Mole and African Peanut Stew. They discontinued their Doro Wat and Tomotillo Rancheros, so I'm interested in trying their new offerings. I personally like their meals, but generally warn folks that their meals can pack a lot of spice and heat. Anyway, thanks again for the suggestions for new commercial dehydrated food to try. It's always nice to add a few new items to the menu! |

HappyHuskies- I only tried the one cold-prep salad, but am looking forward to trying the other one. They may be what you are looking for. The Coconut Rice and Cuban Black Beans has me looking for a similar recipe to cook at home. |

HappyHuskies: " I'mn not a vegetarian, but find on longer trips that I start to crave vegetables, so am always interested in new dehydrated "vegi-meals". I really should eat down some of what I have on the shelf now before buying more though. " I do the same. I realized that it's fresh food I crave, not necessarily vegetables in general. I usually hit the salad bar at the steak house pretty hard the first night out of the wilderness, and eat a lot of fresh fruit the first few days out. |

I would like to try the Miso Broccoli and the Sweet Potato and Kale. I'mn not a vegetarian, but find on longer trips that I start to crave vegetables, so am always interested in new dehydrated "vegi-meals". I really should eat down some of what I have on the shelf now before buying more though. |

The Garlic Green Bean and Cashew Stir Fry and the Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Kale and Quinoa were both quite tasty, with the former a tad better, but I'd eat all 4 I've sampled again. |

In any case knowing that you found at least the one reasonably palatable was enough to get me to take the leap. Not sure when I'll try them though. If there continues to be just a few inches of snow along the Kek, I may try one last backpacking trip after Thanksgiving before giving up and waiting for safe ice on the lakes. In any case, always nice to see another food option that seems to be trying to be different than other offering. Thanks for sharing your experience. |

boonie: "Update: Thanks for continuing to share your thought on these new meals. I placed an order last year for a few of their offerings, but don't use much dehydrated food in the winter. Both sound worth trying. With the snow disappearing fast I hope to get out for a hike in the BW before ice out and will try a few meals then. |

They are having 20% off sale, I think through Monday. I also noticed they have a couple of variety pack bundles - 3meals, 2 hot, 1 cold - that save some money and are also 20% off that. I also checked out Outdoor Herbivore and they have several new meals that are cold prep/salad types that may be of interest to you. |
