bordertrail: "TuscaroraBorealis: "Pop tarts?" We, unfortunately or not, are Pop Tarts-every-morning-in-the-BWCA people. I can see how someone would describe them as such. Your cinamon and sugar idea sounds like a Mexican version of lefse. Mike |

missmolly: "AmarilloJim: "I usually just do a breakfast bar or 2 and some GORP. I usually break camp pre-dawn and fish while I travel." Me too. I even brew coffee after dinner and put it in a thermos. Cold camp and no dishes in the morning. I’ll bring a couple hot breakfasts for a 9 day trip for rain or non travel days. A frozen box of egg beaters and bacon is great in a tortilla. With a little effort you can keep fresh bacon 5 days without issue, probably longer. I also bring a meal of biscuits and gravy with bisquick mix, dehydrated sausage, and country gravy mix. Not sure if you can have the gravy though. This year I want to turn the B&G into a diner with fried fish in the mix. I tend to avoid big effort meals, but sometimes it’s fun when you’re windbound, etc. |

Wally13: "MN_Lindsey, Wally13 - Eggs come from chickens. There are no dairy products in OvaEasy Eggs. Ingredients: whole eggs, yolks, egg whites. |

Quinoa. Make some grain free granola (basically nuts, seeds, coconut) and use nut or soy milk. |

Thanks for making me feel better with your comeback post. Missmolly’s and nooneuno’s posts had me laughing out loud ... as I must confess that I have been working in agriculture for 40 years and know that eggs come from chickens ... and there is no dairy in OVA EASY eggs. |

TuscaroraBorealis: "Pop tarts?" Spackle on plywood. I like burrito shells with cinnimum and suger, you can add fruit, butter, yogart spread, or whatever. |

NotLight: "missmolly: "Swampturtle: "Couscous, instant rice, instant brown rice can all be made as easily as oatmeal. Add dried or fresh fruits & nuts to taste. Sugars & spices. Almond milk or Moos non dairy creamer for added flavor. Thanks everyone for your ideas! UPDATE: After a few weeks of re-introducing various foods after an anti-inflammatory/elimination diet (Whole30)... I'm realizing I'm actually fairly reactive to wheat, barley, oats. Most severely is dairy. Had rice tonight, and [blue] corn earlier w/o issue... I will try quiona next. Otherwise, I do raise my own hens for eggs (and yep not actually dairy even though even on the food pyramid it ends up in the dairy dept) so the eggs would at least be shelf stable... The other option is coffee + coconut oil, and or GORP, fruit leather which is a great idea too! (or I'll just rely on some intermittent fasting! Haha) Thanks, everyone, I do appreciate it. Food sensitivities are real, and they are the pits. |

Ova Easy eggs are about as close as you can get to real eggs that you can get. I throw some cheese on top of the cooked eggs. But instead of bagels ... I toast 2 slices of Arnold or Brownberry “Sandwich Thins” and make a bacon and egg sandwich. The Sandwich Thins work well as they last a long time in the woods as they are whole grain and they are very lightweight to transport. Quick and great tasting breakfast. |

Sorry... I forgot you have a dairy allergy situation. So OVA EASY eggs are likely out of bounds for breakfast ... ME BAD! |

Dehydrated hash browns, dehydrated breakfast sausage, with a little gravy mix powder (assuming that doesn't have ingredients you're allergic to). The key is you don't actually have to cook that hash browns in a skillet. You can soak, and simmer like any other dehydrated meal and it turns out really good! The add-ins of various dried veggies and such are nearly endless. Hoe cakes are another favorite. Cormeal pancakes essentially. You can do them with all cornmeal and no flour to be gluten free too. |

I made stovetop rice pudding with almond milk & dehydrated it. My recipe is in the breakfast section. I cold rehydrated it overnight & it was good hot or cold the next morning for a quick breakfast. |

Biscuit Mix and Gravy mix is easy. I like cheesy biscuits and country style gravy. |

That's a shame about both oats and dairy... I like the granola with powdered milk packs for breakfast sometimes too, but that checks two of you nope boxes. And oats are in just about every breakfast/trail bar. |

The other thing we eat a lot of is bagels toasted either in a frying pan or on a fire grate. |

Sigh. I mean - oatmeal is so easy in the bwca, but I cannot eat it anymore without feeling terrible. Thoughts for an easy breakfast that doesn't involve too much dairy or oats? (I can have hard cheese, just no soft cheese or milk.) |

You take the dehydrated ground sausage and rehydrate that in the broth while the potatoes, cut small to cook quickly, cook. You can do it all in one pan. I had it with mushrooms, but I have heard of people eating it with onion or peppers too. If the sausage doesn't have enough kick then you can add some seasoning like dried red pepper or hot sauce. It tastes great and you can just let it cook while you get ready for the day. Takes about 15 min. It's not the fastest but it certainly tastes great and provides a lot of energy for the day. 1 potato per person is plenty and not too heavy depending on the length of the trip. |

If it does not need to be warm find a ceral you like dry. There is a kid in our group that eats a box of instant oatmeal every day. I was going to sugest the Mt House breakfast skillet but they list milk as an ingredient in the scrambled eggs. |

they cold soaked dried fruit over night. I the morning they poured off some of the flavored soak water into corn meal and flour mixture and heated the fruit letting it "stew" and the remaining water thicken and reduce, while they made corn cakes and cooked them in a pan. |

I know you can't do dairy but this past year I tried Mountain House Granola with Blueberries, and their Biscuits & Gravy; I loved them both. I think Pack-It Gourmet that has some very tasty grits. |

bposteve: "It's not for everybody, but have you tried the French Breakfast? It's a cup of coffee and a cigarette. Not the healthiest choice but if you only do it on your trips you likely won't have any long term negative effects*. This used to be my favorite breakfast but then I quit smoking. +1 Enjoyed in solitude on the thunder dome. I also happen to be French, never knew I've been enjoying a traditional ethnic morning meal for years hahaha. Also a big fan of prepped omlets boiled in bags. |

Don’t stand behind a cow laying an egg, because if the cow sneezes that egg comes out like a rock from a sling shot! |
