I got the ones on Amazon once. Had to get six boxes. I didn't think they were as good as the Hungry Jack, but I have been looking for the Hungry Jack for a couple years now and they don't seem to make them anymore. I am puzzled. I would have thought I bought enough of them to make them popular!! :-)
From now on, I guess I'll go back to Amazon for theirs.

It should work fine. I’ve never dehydrated the store-bought version but I have dehydrated home-grown hash browns. They’re great

So, two days before our trip and I cannot seem to find any of the Hungry Jack hash browns in their paper, milk carton package. None at Pick n Save and none at Wal Mart. So I ventured over to the frozen veggie aisle and grab a bag of Ore-Idas. Got home and threw them in my dehydrator. Has anyone else tried this? Stay tuned, I'll let you know in a week.

Actually, I also have tried finding the packaged dry hash browns I always used to bring. None to be found. Interesting that there continues to be readily available other types like scalloped, mashed etc. Anyone know what happened?

I see they’re found on Amazon, if nothing else.

I’ve been looking for them and have not found the Hungry Jack brand. Our local Costco has a generic version but you have to buy a six or eight pack. That’s a lot of hash browns!!

The hash browns turned out real well. Although, I probably should have let them reconstitute longer than the usual 12 minutes that the Hungry Jacks used to say on their package. They were a little dry, but at least they weren't too pasty. I did like the fact that we could adjust the amount we needed to accommodate the large group (8) we had though.

We found them about 2 months ago here in Texas. I just checked and they are available for pickup today locally. They might be available through Walmart for ordering mail order if you have the time. It seems like dehydrating the frozen ones should work, they may oxidize more though and not be the same color.
If they aren't available in northern states someone could order a bunch and be a local black market for Hungry Jack hashbrowns. Alternatively, they could get a local outfitter or business to advertise as a reliable source.

Another tip is to dry them on a paper or cloth towel before putting them in the pan. They will crisp up faster and reduce the amount of fuel necessary to make a fine finished product.

I think I found them in Walgreens in their little food section last time I bought them & I stocked up because they were indeed hard to find.
Hungry jack is still making them, original flavor. They have a "where to find" link here with maps. If you click on the link that say buy online, it takes you to an Amazon link.
Hope your dehydrating went well along with your trip. I dehydrate my homemade hash browns & it comes out great every time.
