Jan, that brings back memories of family camping. :)

The other way was skewering bread with a stick (forked stick is best) and toasting it over the fire like a marshmellow.

When I was in Boy Scouts we make billy pots and stoves out of tin cans, and a handy little individual cobbler maker out of a tuna can. We probably made a toaster, too, though I don't remember. That was so long ago. In fact, now that I think about it, I don't think toast was invented yet when I was a kid.

SunCatcher has a neat toaster made from an old coffee can. I have a large metal can in my possession and would like to make one of these for a camp stove. Suncatcher, or anyone else, how do I make one?

It was the best camp toaster ever, wasn't it? And I even have the proper can! Not so easy now that coffee comes in plastic. ;-)
