This is a re-post as I originally posted in wrong category. I am wondering what most people pack for their furry companions while canoe tripping? I don't want to bring dog food due to it being bulky, any suggestions?

With our research we found we'd bringing more dehydrated dog food on our trip than regular food, so we stick to our dog's regular food. We vacuum seal each package separately for each meal and put it in the side of the food pack. Decoy is a black lab, so carrying her food would be not a very good idea since she enjoys rolling in poo and swimming constantly.

First suggestion is to get your dog his/her own pack and make them carry their own food, if your dog is large enough to do so. Our 80# dog carried enough food for both of our dogs in this Palisades Pack

This website has dehydrated dog food, but it's expensive if you have a large dog. You can order 5 free samples (do have to pay shipping), our dogs loved it. Just make sure you slowly introduce the new food prior to your trip to avoid an upset tummy. Dehydrated dog chow
