Last weekend my wife and I were canoe camping on the Lower Wisconsin River and used the reflector oven to cook up some biscuits. We used the Bisquick Completes cheese garlic biscuits. They only require water to make. They make up six decent size biscuits. The Cheese Garlic ones are pretty garlicy.
They also come in 3 other flavors: Buttermilk, Cheese and Honey wheat. I purchased them at Wal-Mart in the baking aisle. My wife came up with the idea of mixing them in a large Ziploc baggie and then cutting off an end corner to squeeze the mix onto the pan. They came out great.

Looks very good. I have also just cooked these in both the GSI Dutch Oven as well as a little oil in a fry pan.

One trip I didn't even bother with the fish fry breading, i just used one of these and some cajun/old bay type spice. Really good...even on slimers (pike).
When I make the biscuits, I add an Italian garlic blend to kick them up.
I can only find the garlic cheddar biscuits at Walmart & no where else...good to know there are other (probably regional) styles. I'll keep my eye out for them...

I've mixed this with a Cajun style fish fry breading for frying fish. I didn't have enough of just one for the fish I had. It was the best tasting fish I've ever had.

I slightly prefer the pizza dough mixes - Pillsbury and especially Jiffy - to make a good frying pan bread. Just a little more bread like than Bisquick - IMHO of course.

made frying pan bread with the cheesy garlic today...small pan over a pocket rocket. worked great, no more cache lake breads for me.

+2 I like these and have prepared them like the Cache Lake fry breads and in my jello mold oven. Nice to hear about the other varieties--my local Cub Foods only has the garlic flavor...

There are also several brands of water-only gravy, not what your grandmother made but in the middle of nowhere, pan biscuits and some similation of hot sausage gravy is pretty friggin good.

Also try this, water only, they're really good, about 7 different varieties and 98 cents will make 4 normal servings
