I've taken dehydrated Sloppy Joe's with the last two years. Just make our regular family recipe and then into the dehydrator. Also dehydrated a couple of cans of Bush's baked beans. Well received by all on the trip. We re-hydrated the beans with boiling water in a freezer bag in a cozie, then added boiling water to the Sloppy Joe's and re-hydrated and cooked up. When they were ready, everyone's beans were still really hot and tasted as if straight out of the can. We had the Sloppy Joe's on/in pocket bread. It will continue to be on the menu in the future. Very easy to make and lighter than bringing in frozen, imho.

I dehydrated pulled pork in BBQ sauce and dried it all together. It rehydrates great and you dont have to mess with mixing and all that.

I would think they would do OK as they are sliced thin enough. Basically you are just dehydrating a cucumber.

I think i read some other threads on this that said it wasnt great because of concentrating the salt or somthing.
I wish I could find packets of dill relish for my pulled pork (I dont like sweet relish at all).

We just freeze the hamburger, take sauce out of can and freeze it, then take it along in a plastic container with lid, cook the meat and add the sauce, no big deal. works fine on nights 3-5 with not prob, just the longer you wait the more smashed the buns get...although i bet it would work well with the pocket bread.
The frozen meat and sauce actually help keep everything else cold and then is defrosted in a couple days.

You may also want to try your dehydrated sloppy joe mix over instant mashed potatoes.
My crew also likes rehydrated hamburger over mashed potatoes with instant brown gravy.

My wife makes great sloppy joes and I was thinking about this same thing the other day. Good to hear they worked out well. We'll have to include them for a meal.

Just cook up the burger and drain it really well to get all of the fat off. Then you could either do it one of two ways. Either dry the sauce separately and make like a fruit leather out of it. or mix it with the burger and then dry it. And as Mr French used to say on Family Affair show, calling them Sloppy Joes is too uncouth, so he called them Untidy Josephs. LOL

That is one of our family faves and I never thought to dehydrate it. Thank you for the inspiration!
