I used my DO in Scouts for many years. The boys two favorites were Pineapple Upside down cake and Apple Crisp.

My favorite remains old fashioned pot roast. Big hunk of meat, potatoes and carrots and onions - some broth. Start after lunch and by dinner time - yum! Made some beer batter bread in a second DO - great for soaking up that gravy.

Really want to work on perfecting some basic yeast breads, but I think I'd have to put the dough in my sleeping bag to proof it.

I love cooking in a Dutch oven. I also got my training in Dutch oven cooking as a Boy Scout leader. The Boy Scouts have really helped spread the use of Dutch ovens. I prefer aluminum ovens.

For years the patrols in our troop cooked on propane camp stoves. We introduced fire cooking for one weekend a year. Two years of that and now most every patrol uses a dutch oven for one or two meals if not all four every month. We estimate we use a ton of charcoal in a year.

Boys Scouts know how to cook!

I was a a leadership training a couple weekends ago and we made 15 different dutch oven meals.

Was awesome!

Looks like some good recipes in there. Will have to try a few out this season.
