quote dblwhiskey: "Right now my wife is drying my daughters Prom flowers so she can keep it for her memories. Its not what I had originally thought of when I bought my dehydrator. Lol" Extra food as a back-up, perhaps? |

quote okinaw55: "I'm going to get fancy this week. Japanese curry comes in chocolate brick style breakable pieces in a pack. My plan is to precook potatoes, carrots, chicken, and onions in a pot. Drain water and dehydrate, then rehydrate the mixture and add the curry cubes in the woods. Pour over rice, pot cooked (none of that instant stuff). I think it may be the best meal of the trip // hopefully anyway. That sounds delicious! Here is my input and how I would do it. I convert lots of recipes to my dehydrator and use a large jet boil pot as my main cooking appliance. The water you drain out of that pot will have tons of flavor & goodness, you don't want to lose your vitamins down the drain. You are also putting everything into water, making it a longer dehydrating period-no big deal really. You could put it all into a skillet and sauté it or bake your food in the oven. My version would be to roast all of the veggies in the oven, sauté chicken in a pan & season. You could put it together and dehydrate or leave the meat & veggies separate since they tend to rehydrate differently. You might want to leave the skin on the potatoes, as they might break apart during rehydration. Good luck and let us know how it turns out....Japanese curry...mmm. |

quote ripple: "Funny you should ask- as I just moved the dehydrator loaded with our favorite tuna pate to the garage because it was stinking up the place! That sounds like something I would love!!! How long and at what temp are you dehydrating that at? |

I'll be doing ground turkey and/or chicken some night this week. Maybe some frozen veggies and apples for apple crisp. Then I'm probably done for a little while. The top shelf of the freezer is overflowing with dehydrated items. We leave in less than three weeks and have the menu mostly ready. First time we'll be bringing our own dehydrated food and a lot less fresh food. Excited to see what we think and hope that it was worth the purchase :-) |

quote OldFingers57: "I'll be glad when summer comes around and I can dehydrate some things from the farmer's markets. One of my favorites is zucchini chips, which are zucchini sliced very thin and dusted with garlic or onio powder or a chili powder. Like eating healthy potato chips." Sounds good. I think I'll give it a try. |

1 lb lean hamburger meat 1 pkg taco seasoning 1 can Rotel tomatoes and green chilies (or petite diced tomatoes) 2 cups beef broth (or water) 1 cup elbow macaroni Brown and drain hamburger meat. Stir in taco seasoning, Rotel, beef broth, and macaroni. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat and cover pan. Simmer 12-14 mins until macaroni is tender. Meanwhile, make the cheese sauce…. 2 Tablespoons butter 2 tbsp flour 3/4 cup milk 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp pepper Melt the butter in a saucepan. Whisk in the flour and cook, whisking for 5 minutes until fragrant and light brown in color. Whisk in the milk and bring to a boil. Whisk until smooth and thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Add the salt and pepper to the cheese sauce. Pour the cheese sauce over the hamburger mixture. Stir gently to combine. I wasn't sure how it would dehydrate with the cheese and milk. It worked great. I flipped it over during the process of drying. I have a heavy duty Cabelas dehydrator. It's the one with the glass door. It can pretty much handle anything. Hungry Hammock Hanger has some good recipes on his site. |
