What do you suppose the shelf life might be if the contents of a #10 can are repackaged in foodsaver vacuum bags. i just don't wanna eat that much of any one item - I'd probably use it over a 5 year period.

There is 34 servings in that box, so $1.68 per serving, and you don't have to eat the same thing for every meal

A #10 can supplies 10 1-cup servings at $2.90 per serving. A pouch supplies 2.5 1-cup servings for $7.49 or $2.99 per serving.
As a side note, a #10 can has 10 1-cup servings providing 260 calories and has 760 mg of sodium per serving.
Each pouch has 2.5 1-cup servings providing 260 calories and 790 mg of sodium per serving, which is 650 calories and 1,975 mg of sodium! if you eat the entire pouch.
Sic caveat emptor.

I've used the #10 cans for things like the freeze dried chicken and taken it out of the can and vac sealed two person servings. Wokrs great that way for backpacking and canoeing, lt wt and easy to add to Freezer bag style cooking recipes.

Like bonnie said there are 2.5- 1 cup servings in the large entrees, of which there are 9 in this box, so that's $2.5 per serving and you still get another $30 in breakfast skillets and deserts, I'm no math major (but my wife is!) but I do know this is about as cheap as they get, just a matter of if you like the flavores assembled, I personally don't love any FD food but I do love the weight, short cook time and lack of dishes to do. Also I have bought the big containers before and didn't enjoy the added time and money involved in repacking into usable portion sizes, but that's just me.

It's been almost two years but the large Mountain House boxes are back at Costco, little different selection, includes some breakfast skillets and one desert, 13 packs in total, $57, so each pack is avg $4.38 which is cheap considering most are $7.50-$9 each. Just thought id give a heads up for anyone that might be interested.
