quote mirth: "I've made a few leathers and dried the bounty of strawberries we picked in early July. Did a new one - cherry apple vanilla leather the other night... A little too much vanilla. Will likely be doing a lot of drying this winter as I prep for taking my son's Scout troop to the BW next summer.
I expect to be doing a bunch of apples as well if we make it out to the orchard in September or October."
Granny Smith are great dusted with some cinnamon. I do them all of the time. Be sure to dip them in some diluted lemon juice to prevent them from browning while drying.

Just wondering if anyone else has their dehydrator fired up? I started some sausage and salsa going about 5;30pm yesterday but shut it off when I let for work about 10;00pm, the salsa was about half done and the sausage was still soft in the middle probably will need 4/5 hours when I get home this morning. I need to do some hamburger for spaghetti and tacos, and will try some baked beans, great source of potassium, nuts are a good source but not as much fun to "share" with your tentmate. We leave in 3 weeks but I only have 4/5 days off before we leave so I want at least the food out of the way. FRED

I just got a dehydrator a few weeks ago and have dehydrated chili, corn, peas, taco seasoned beef, spaghetti sauce with beef and a fruit roll up. We already tried the chili, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I think it turned out better rehydrated than the day we first made it. We still need a few more meals for our upcoming trip but have decided what they will be.

Yup, or Sprite/7up. They're both high in citric acid and impart little to no taste.

My new Excalibur arrived just yesterday. Making some salt/vinegar Zucchini chips tomorrow followed up by some salted green beans, venison jerky and some sausage/chicken jambalaya.

My wife just made ripple's beef stroganoff recipe (from the main course thread), and it was really good. Half of it is now in the dehydrator.
