This is a great post and topic.

That's about right for the salt, but a lot more sugar than I use - I make it by the Liter and can't recall where I got this recipe - I got it before Gatorade was around and have since modified to try to make it more physiological and palatable.

1/4 tsp of lite salt or salt (50% sodium chloride / 50% potassium chloride)
4 tablespoons of frozen orange juice concentrate
1 tsp of lemon juice

I use this everyday in the gym in my water bottle.

(By the way - Normal saline solution used in medicine is 0.9% and takes 9 grams per liter which is about 1 1/2 TEAspoons of salt. But that tastes way too salty to drink. A 5% Dextrose (sugar) IV has 50 grams of sugar which is about 3 TABLEspoons of sugar which is just about right for a re-hydration drink. 4 tablespoons of OJ concentrate is about 1/2 that. Going on the low side of the salt and sugar will help your body absorb the water better than Gatorade.)

I can't stand the taste of real "Gatorade" so this might be just the ticket. Thanks for the recipe.

I've been doing this for years. 4 ingredients, way cheaper than buying the powder and tastes better.

enough for 1 gallon

1 tsp lite salt (the side of this can should say 50% potassium, 50% sodium)

.5 tsp salt (aka sodium)

2 envelopes koolaid - unsweetened. lemonade is best

1.25 cups sugar
