Freeze Dryer

saw a few adds on the television about these guys.

Has anyone ever used one yet.??

Is that the one that costs around $3700? At that price I would need to be doing every BWCA.com members food.

Well, if a freeze dried meal/packet averages $5 (?) and the bag and absorber is a $1, at $3600 you'd need to do 900 meals/packets or so to break even.


Think I'll just keep dehydrating and buy a canoe of my dreams instead.

The freeze drier shown also has only a 4 tray capacity with a 24 hour cycle.
Any large scale home use would have it running continuously. Not even considering power needs.
Nice to see a home consumer unit, but will need more development.
Reminds me of the first microwave ovens.

your right... Look at the first microwave ovens and costs, DVD Players etc.

Just had to look up the first micrwave we had, Kenmore Solid State cost just under $500 1980!

Lot of youtube make your own freeze dry. After looking at 2, think I'm still in the dehydrate camp and maybe buy a few things freeze dried.

My first VCR in the early 80's... Had detachable recorder from the tuner, place to plug in the camera... rechargeable battery pack...
cost close to $1K for that........
