In cans, Honeyville has the smallest at 6.6 ounces (6-8 servings?) but point out: "Shelf-Life: can be stored for 10-15 years in a sealed #10 can in a cool dry place once opened, if refrigerated, it’s 1 month if not refrigerated, 1 week" Not sure I'd ever use enough of a can in one trip to make it worth it, and not sure I trust home resealing as really extending the one week un-refrigerated life. But the Apline Aire packets - at around $5 - might be worth it. The Tyson packets at maybe $1.50/serving seem like a better way to go, even if you feed half to your dog (or use as bait?). |

I think freeze dried would do better with a cold water soak. |

quote billconner: "I think there use to be smaller but no longer. I have searched and even called companies tgat market the 7 ounce packets. There are half size tuna packets. " I know. I hate tuna. :( |

quote OldFingers57: "I get a large can of freeze dried chicken and open and then reseal the chicken into smaller two person servings with a vac sealer. You could do the same and make up single serve vac sealed bags if you have a vac sealer. " x2 |

We take summer sausage, cheese, peanut butter, crackers, and dried fruit and mix it up day to day. Would you try dehydrating chicken? I would think mixed with cold water that by lunch time mixed with some mayo it would be pretty good, but would want to try at home. Or try TVP Chickenish . One session presenter at Canoecopia raved about it. I've been planning to expirement at hoe but not gotten to it yet. This page mentions chicken salad. Might call them and ask how well it works with cold water only, though I don't know if there is a hazard in keeping this for a few hours - as in add hot water at breakfast. |

quote billconner: " Sounds like I can soak it, or simmer. From their FAQs: Use directly in soups, stews, or rehydrate to use as a healthy, meatless option. Add 2 cups water to 1 cup TVP, soak, or simmer for 5-10 minutes. Because this product is already precooked, you can use it “raw,” without cooking. |

I am bringing my dog; I'm sure he'd eat the extra chicken if I cared to carry the extra weight...but... |
