Just found this:

Matt Food
1 oz of peanut butter/person/day (we measure it out in a BIG bowl on a food scale)
Honey, to taste
Powdered Milk, to taste
Oats (old fashioned, not Quick Cooking oats if possible), to taste and consistency preference

I did a google search and after a bit of looking I found this posted by Camp Menogyn. I think that is where my friend that made it went in high school.

I went to the BWCA with some friends a long time ago. The one that was in charge of food had this recipe she called Mat Food. It was a long time ago but I remeber it being made with peanut butter and some kind of oats or something. It was like a brick of peanut butter and other stuff. Does anybody know what this could be. I'm interested in how it was made.

Any thoughts?

Josh

This sounds similar to what we call " energy balls". It is made with natural peanut butter, chocolate chips, and cracker meal. Goooood!!!!

Sounds kind of like the concept of Hudson Bay Bread, that isn't really bread but a kind of home made calorie dense energy bar type food. It's delicious and travels well. I think it originated with the Boy Scouts and there are recipes on the internet that can be modified to your own taste. There is even a thread here somewhere with recipes and suggestions. It's worth trying if you haven't.
