The backpacking food discussion got me thinking (I know, dangerous), I do not like the nutrition/snack/breakfast bars.

I like nuts, popcorn, caramel. Why not make some sheets of caramel corn with extra stuff! Vacuum seal and refrigerate till needed. I think they turned out very well!

Cashews, sunflower seeds, peanuts, pistachios, pecans, added to caramel corn recipe from the internet. Spread on a cookie sheet to set up, then vac-bagged. 10 packaged bars from the first batch.

Next batch has "Corn Pop's" cereal, raisins, less nuts and maple syrup substituted for corn syrup. Little sweeter and hard to resist!

Could add all sorts of stuff, oats, other seeds, dried fruits, whatever you like.

Nope too much caramel to make a bar, would have become a part of it!

Second batch is more like "Cracker Jack" and small toys would work. Next time????

Sounds like those bars should be good eating and calorie free [insert snicker here]. My thoughts on those bars are; are'nt thet really sticky? That could work in your favor, eat one then go shoot a rapids and you won't have to worry about dropping your paddle. Really sound like the stuff they use for bear baiting. As a tell if bears had been in camp in the night, if the paddle handle is licked super cleanin the morning. Years ago I tried to make my own snack bars, mixed rolled oats, nuts berries, candy bars , brown sugar , mixed togather rolled out flat and backed in the oven till done, they looked great, kept well, but were so hard nobody could eat them, a few yers ago I was on LLC and I think I saw a chipmunk still chewing on one from that 2000 trip. Hey, now, I think it's a great fun idea for trip partners and people, especially kids, at wing nite. Or you could make them like fortune cookies: "You will find a smooth level tent pad". :)
