Looks just like I remember it, Joe, THANKS! I certainly wish digital cameras were available in the '70's (LOL)! The few photos with my little 110 camera are pretty pitiful, but that photo storage area in the old gray matter works surprisingly well (LOL)!

Lindy - great cedar waxwing shot!
Banksiana - nice shot... amazing how fast those gray jays can be. I'll bet I have 20 shots where they flew in the middle of the exposure.
Terry - nice to hear from you... the Current River looks like it is moving pretty good.
These red squirrels are at virtually every camp, but I still love shooting them.

I must say I had no idea just how many mushroom/fungi shots I have. Nor did I remember how many different varieties, shapes, sizes and colors they come in. I'm ready to move on to another topic anytime but this sure is fun.
I apologize, not trying to take over the thread. Just having fun looking back, and getting excited for next year's shots:)

Had to include this one just because of the sheer size of the mushroom - probably the biggest I have seen. Comparable to the diameter of a large Frisbee, I included the hand in the shot for a point of reference.
If you enjoy mushroom/fungi photography I highly recommend Crosby Manitou State Park. Great for a daytrip or a backpack camping trip of several days as we did. I fondly call it Crosby Mushroom State Park, i have never seen so many and so much variety. The mink with the frog legs was also shot there and it offers beautiful forest, river and waterfalls to boot.

WOW, what great photos this month!I thought I had taken some great mink shots, but Gary and Lindy, WOW! And Saganaga Joe, I love those PNW pics, keep them coming! That shot in the Olympics is spectacular! When I was 15, my step father took me out west for the first time to visit a friend in Wenatchee, Washington. We went to Yellowstone from there but also had a few day hikes in the Cascades near Leavenworth, WA. Always thought I'd make it back there one day, and make it up north to the Olympics too, but it's 43 years later....
So here's a pic, one of my all-time favorites that I've taken; I feel like I need to "Hit you with my best shot" (LOL) after all these superb photos! Lower falls of the Yellowstone after a dusting of September snow:

Here are three images captured on an October afternoon on our former property near Mio, MI. The first two may be of Amanita muscaria "Fly mushroom". The third is a cluster of what may be Inocybe pudica. Whatever they are, the important thing is that I thought they were pretty.

Gary, a very disciplined approach - mine are mostly hand held or perhaps monopod. Not bragging at all, you are doing the right thing. I just don't have the discipline.
Cowdoc, our "Tall One" shots are very similar. Probably both had to dust off our bellies after those shots...haha.

This picture evokes an ethereal feeling for me, but I don't know exactly why that is. Maybe it is the ice separating the land from the reflection.

ausable...thanks for that comment. that particular spot was always a favorite of mine during any season. i like that it winds around to the right of that bog and you just have to wonder what's back there? even during soft water times there was always a reflection of those trees on the water.

I'm glad that you didn't let the the gray skies and damp days stop you from looking for pictures. Nice orange cluster in that first pic and good use of shallow depth of field and background bokeh in the 2nd. I like looking for interesting fungi and lichen. Here are some trumpet lichen from Sunday Lake in Quetico.

Lindy - great pano on Crocodile Lake - I never been there, but have been to East Bearskin... nice area. Also nice North Shore shot... love the wave action and color of the water.
Mocha - I see you shoot mushrooms/ fungi too, it's amazing how many of us do... nice shots. Also, your shot on the way to the Cross River is beautiful!

Third Beach, near La Push, WA (Pacific Ocean). I put around 400 miles on the van driving around the Olympic Peninsula on Christmas Eve. Living in Minnesota now means I'm much farther away from the ocean.

Some of my best shots are Portrait orientation, as opposed to Landscape. Everytime I post one on here it turns it sidewise. Anyone else experience that? Any fixes?

Since my eyes and brain see horizontal, shooting verticals does not come naturally to me. Every trip I tell myself to shoot more veriticals, but seldom do. Here is one vertical shot, to help see if the vertical issues Lindy was talking about is really fixed. It was taken from Trail's End Campground.

Gary, great shot. Some subjects just seem to work better vertical. I shoot a fair amount of them but it seems like many people don't. Great that they work on here now...or was it my user error all along?

Perfect subject for a vertical. Your eye is drawn up (and down) the trees, and, after not reaching their tops, bounces back and forth between the two suns before finally turning to the focal point on the horizon. Beautiful.

Another great shot Joe, the lake reflection is a nice bonus! Wish I had some mountain shots to share but my last trip to the mountains I was shooting Velvia slide film.

In the early years, we saw lots of gray jays every trip... they were really aggresive about stealing food off our plates. Then from the 1990s - 2010 we saw very few. Now we are seeing them again most every trip... nice to have them back! This from our 2018 fall trip... shot with 70-200mm at 200mm

We had tons of rain during our trip in late September, so when the photo ops were limited due to gray blah skies, I went behind camp. There were all sorts of interesting mushrooms to shoot... here are a couple. We were camped on Lake Agnes in BWCA.

Gary, you are right on that. Whenever I am out in the woods I keep a wary eye out for mushrooms, etc.. I literally have hundreds of shots of them, these are just random ones I found quickly. Looks like ausable and Cowdoc are there with us:)

Cowdoc, where did you find that fungus and do you know the name? In my copy of "The Mushroom Hunter's Field Guide" it looks similar to Ramaria Subbotrytis (Rose Coral). It is gorgeous.

Speaking of the Grand Tetons, here's a panorama taken from Grand View Point east of the Grand Tetons. I apologize for any banding you might see in the sky: compressing a 200 MB tiff down to a 3.2 MB jpeg has consequences.

I'll play along...sunset on Crocodile lake. One of my favorite lakes and favorite trips. We had the whole lake to ourselves, caught plenty of fish and saw lots of wildlife including 3 wolves splashing in the water for a half hour or so across the bay .

Thanks guys, I do take lots of photos when I go up north... typically 3000 per trip. But most of those I wouldn't want to share :-) One reason I take so many is because I often bracket exposure levels to give me more flexibility when I am home processing.
Lindy, great shot of the bumblebee... beautiful color and composition! I have also chased the bees and butterflies around the prairie here in Iowa. It is definitely a low percentage endeavor... I get one keeper in every 50 shots or so since they move so fast. I usually use my 100-400mm zoom (handheld) with the shutter speed set really high.

Along with mushrooms, birds, flowers, landscapes and sunrises/sunsets, insect photography is another thing I really enjoy. The detail that you can see in a good shot is really incredible.

Lots of great shots everyone! Ausable... love the little red highlights on the trumpet lichen. Lindy, the red sumac really pops... the dusting of snow gives it a nice touch too. Banksiana, where was that taken... very nice grand landscape!
Now what shall I post next? Think I'll go with a critter... here is a mink taken near a portage to Ima Lake.

Hyas Lake would be a good canoeing lake! This is Jade Lake, at a much higher elevation (5400 feet) on the same hiking trip. Quite possibly one of the most beautiful spots I've ever visited or will visit.

Great job everyone, getting to 100 posts. The totals for the three previous months were 3, 5 and 6! Wondering if we can keep it going? I am certainly enjoying seeing all of your great photos and posting relevant ones as well. For those of us that have made it this far, i suspect photography is a passion, I know it is for me.
