I love mornings. Some are better than others. This one on the Gammon River was better than most.

Here are a couple foggy morning shots from camp on Ester Lake a few years back... breakfast was later that morning :-)

I spent two days and a night paddling and camping on the Current River many years ago. I really don't remember much about it other than being mightily impressed by the beauty.
If i recollect properly, it was one of the first to be designated a National Wild and Scenic River, similar to our St. Croix and Namekagon Rivers up here.

I typed up a lengthy reply and unfortunately it was LOST when I couldn't get Firefox to upload my pictures! SOoooooo, since I'm a slow typist, here's a link to Ozark National Scenic Riverways. It was "Legislated" in 1964, but not "Designated" until 1971, so the Eleven Point actually ended up our first "National River" in 1968 when the USFS started the "Wild and Scenic River" designation. Had politicians, the NPS, and the USFS not fought over ONSR, it would have been "First."
Anyway, I chose my name "Ozarkpaddler" because I'm on the river a day or two most weeks of the year. So here's a few winter pics of the Current and Jack's Fork:

Thanks Gary...that Ahsub lake shot is stunning. Haven't been there that I can recollect. The vantage point appears to be somewhat high off the water and the fire grate is positioned perfectly. And of course, you nailed the composition and exposure. Classic BWCA shot.

I built a snow hill in the back yard by walking in circles and blowing the snow inward with the snowblower... it is up to about 8 ft high now. The grandkids and I have been having a ball :-)

NICE! My wife saw one the other day. It was chasing a rabbit in our yard and saw her and stopped, turned tail and vamoosed! At first she thought it was a really big house cat, then she saw the big whiskers and tiny tail.

mooseplums, the Swamper Lake shot is beautiful and the snow tinged lake is very nice, something I have yet to see. hobbydog your shot of winter trees and shadows is really cool, a scene that i suspect many people might not even notice but you nailed it. Getting awful hard to keep up with you folks, love it.

Pre dawn coffee and shooting the sunrise on a calm clear morning is probably my favorite experience in canoe country. Bonus for fog dancing on the water or a few clouds to enhance the colors.

Not a campsite but a bit of shoreline on an unnamed lake. Shot might be better without the stick, but the stick was there. Not even sure what attracted my eye- the play between the texture of rock and the reflection and roil of the water; something about it says "Quetico" and resonates. I take way too many exposures of resonant nothingness.

Banksiana, interesting shot. Rocks like that at the front of a campsite are nice to have and makes me want to see the rest of the campsite(if that's what it is). Also over analyzing it and wondering if it is better with the stick or would be better without it??? Too much time on my hands, haha.

lindylair: "hobbydog, gorgeous shot. you passed that up? I can imagine an epic evening camping in that incredible spot. Live and learn:)" How many times do you have to learn the same lesson? :-) SLOW DOWN!
I got a late start that day, forgot my portage yoke at my camp on Artery Lake so had to backtrack and lost 3 hours. I thought I needed to try make that up. I didn't really realize what I had passed up until I looked at the pictures when I got home. For reference, it is the last portage before Bushey lake. I made it across Bushey and not much further. Here is the camp from that night. Nice view but that was about it.

hd, that one doesn't look so bad, maybe a little short on level ground. Nice view. But the first one looked like a 6 star site. oh well, now you have a reason to go back.

lindylair: "ozark, great shot and looks like a nice spot. Weather looks good too,,,we keep getting alternating -20 degrees and 6 inches of snow every couple days. The ozarks are looking pretty dang good right now."
Love Alley Spring, it empties into the Jack's Fork River. Here's Rocky Falls, which runs into the Current.
It got up in the 30's today. Unfortunately rivers running high and murky with all the rain and melted snow runoff. Unfortunately my work schedule and weather have conspired to keep me off the river the last 2 weeks!
Hobbydog, LOVE that pic of the Bloodvein! A good friend of mine paddled it with his son on a guided trip a couple decades ago. He said they had some gnarly rapids that they made it through but he was pretty certain they were going to DIE paddling Lake Winnipeg. He said that was the only time he ever feared for his life paddling!

Thanks ozark, cool site. i looked at the map of the Current River in hopes of something jogging my memory as to where we camped but no luck. Looks like a gorgeous area.
Doesn't that tick you off when you write out a long post, make one wrong move and it disappears???
BTW, have you considered getting a new thermos? Ha, ha, just kidding. That one looks like it has served you very well. :)

A nice wide spot along the Bloodvein. I passed up on the nice grassy island campsite in the middle of this picture as I wanted to go another hour or two. Then it got late and I settled for a crappy little spot later on. When I looked back on the pictures I realize I might have passed up one of the nicer sites on the two week trip.

NICE! Only time I can get close to a Pileated is when I DON'T have a camera (LOL)! I have some old video that I need to have transferred into digital of a couple Pileated woodpeckers up around Honeymoon Bluff.
Hmmm, tried again and I STILL cannot add photos?
