i was in the woods at back of the camp looking for mushroom photos and was not paying attention to a change in the weather.
walking down hill back into the camp i could see what looked like a wall cloud moving across the bay, right at me!
then that hole opened up and the beam of light played around the bay.

i stood sort of transfixed until i realized the storm would be on me in seconds.in the few seconds it took to get to my shelter in an attempt to drop it the wind hit hard pulling stakes out.with no time to undo the knots i slashed the lines and tossed a couple branches on top and made it into the tent just before the worse of the rain pounded the camp.

Let's see some pics where Mother Nature makes us say "wow....that's weird"
I took this shot of a passing thunder storm on Gillis. It looks like the mother ship is going to beem me up

this was the end of a series of VERY intense rolling storms that preceded the deluge of Duluth in 2011. We were hunkered down on Tacukmich on a providentially sheltered site.

clouds can be so mesmerizing at times. I parked and watched this cloud for about 15 minutes, thinking it sure looked like angels wings

This was on Echo Lake (Witeshell PP) a few years ago. It looked much worse than what it turned out to be. The second picture was taken only a few minutes later.
