I only use flash on backlit shots....otherwise I don't use flash, I think it makes the photo look unnatural

The flash is built in on my point n shoot also. I actually use it quite a bit as a fill flash when photographing people on a sunny day.

i just use the built in flash ans let the camera know when to use it.
try some night shots with the lens on "bulb" or whatever that is on digital cameras and then "paint" the shot with a good bright light.
you can do it in pools of light or a whole campsite or other scene.

A remote flash can make some neat photos. I use an Olympus FL36 but many other wireless remote units are available. Set inside a tent at nite, or backlight a tree. The extra range and adjust-ability can cause a photo nut to stay up late.

My Cannon digital rebel has a flash built in. I have never thought of bringing a flash attachment. I don't think I would have ever used it.

got a flash for my dslr recently. do many of you bring one with you to the bwca? I have never been a big fan of using a flash but that might be because im not well versed in it.

I use my flash outside for many shots I take. The light is so bright that it is useful to fill in the light against a bright background.

I bring an external flash. (I don't use the built-in flashes except on a P&S camera.) It can be helpful as fill-flash and also as a creative lighting technique to create unique photos. It all depends on how much gear you want to take along -- if you normally don't use flash on a non-BWCA/Q adventure, no need to carry the extra weight. If you'd miss it, maybe it's worth bringing along.
