First time I had been in a burn area. Very different and interesting views. We canoed up Pagami Creek for a couple miles to see where the fire originated and it was pretty cool.

A Wilson's Pharlarope. I had never saw one of these before last weekend. It was very late in the day and 5 of them were dancing in the ditch. They were like figure skaters on water.

Its no pharlarope, but for some reason blue jays always take off before I click the shutter.

Woodtick, have you ever seen the whole series of falls on the Manitou river? The lower falls is spectacular.
|

Many years ago, you could hike to the lower falls that drops into lake Superior. Now it is private property and access is prohibited...it still can be viewed but from the lake only. I was there in the late 70s and there was a roadside business where you could buy a lifetime pass tour the falls above the highway and below.

quote mooseplums: "Woodtick, have you ever seen the whole series of falls on the Manitou river? The lower falls is spectacular. " Not yet. I've done a lot of hiking on and off trail in Crosby Manitou SP; but most of what I've seen ranges from the upper cascades to about a mile above highway 61. There's a big falls just a little ways above the highway; I think some are calling it 'rain falling up falls'. Some day I'll make my way over to it. I take it you've been there? If so, did you access it from the park's trails to the north or did you hike up from the highway south of the falls? I imagine there are more falls below the highway as well since my topo map is showing another 100+ foot drop in evelation before reaching the lake.

Interesting bit of history. Hopefully sometime down the road the lower stretch of river will have public access again. I bet it's quite a sight.

I believe rabbits ears also aid in cooling them off. When i was in Arizona a few months ago, I noticed how big the desert cottontails ears were compared to the ones in the midwest....I believe that that is why.
