Yes indeed. One of the things I'm learning about Lightroom is the importance of working with the colour sliders for creating great black and white photographs. I have taken some nice shots where the colour itself was distracting but when I converted to B&W came out flat and dull. But working with the colour sliders can really give a B&W photo pop. Who knew?!

Sometimes when the color doesn't cut it I like the B&W but also the monochrome (brown) - that's often purty sweet as well.

Nik Collection is now free. There are several modules and I really don't know much about them but the B&W module Silver Efex is a highly regarded bit of software. It looks like they can be run as a plugin to Lightroom or Photoshop or use them as a stand alone editing suite... and the price is right. Plenty of tutorials on youtube, at least for the silver fx one, I suspect the others as well.

Been playing with the HDR Efex Pro, large filter choice, nice adjustment availability. Most of the programs seen to find only .jpeg files, need to look harder for .tiff and .raw.
Have been looking at an expensive hardware graduated filter setup, they are in the program.

Wow. I don't know whether to thank you or not. I'm still going through my tutorials learning Lightroom CC (Lynda.com.) This is all new to me and the learning curve feels pretty steep but I'm getting there. I've leaped into photography in a big way this year. I sold my Panasonic fz200 bridge camera and bought a Fujifilm Xt1 with the 18 - 135mm and the 14 mm f 2.8. I'm absolutely loving the camera. What a pleasure to use. The set up reminds me of my old Canon film SLR. I love having the three dials right on the camera and not having to go into the menu to change settings. Now its about learning to use Lightroom. MY main interest is landscape and astro-landscape photography so I'm excited about tapping into the possibilities of HDR. Lightroom has an HDR function but my understanding is that it is pretty limited so Efex Pro should open up some doors. I'm assuming I can find some online tutorials to help me work with this program more effectively. Lots to learn. I want to be up and running for the summer. I'll be spending a month with my wife north of WCPP on the Berens River. I'm hoping to take my first shot at astro-landscape photography. Who knows maybe I'll even get a chance at capturing the Aurora. Anyway, thanks for the heads up on this freebee.

@KerryG Youtube is your friend here. There are tons of videos about all this stuff out there and there are handy little tidbits of info in many many of them. Just yesterday while watching a tutorial on Silver Efex the lady made some mention of what makes a good black and white photo which prompted me to go back and look thru some old photos that I didn't do anything with b/c they weren't cutting it in color, but in B&W I had a keeper.
Practice, practice, practice is the key take the camera out of auto and make deliberate decision on the camera settings and see what you get, I learned so much so quickly with a digital camera over film because you get instant results and you can even keep the bad ones to review at home.
